Life insurance questions & answers
Why do I need life insurance?
Life insurance proceeds can help provide money to pay off debts - like a mortgage, medical expenses or student loans - or provide for the people you care most about in the event something happens to you.
How do I choose the right type of life insurance?
It's important to match your coverage with your needs.
Term insurance is good for someone with insurance needs that may go down in the future.
Permanent insurance is good when you don't expect your need for protection to go down or go away in the future.

What do financial strength ratings mean to me?
An insurance company's rating is one of the best measures of its ability to pay claims. TIAA-CREF Life Insurance Company is a member of one of only three insurance groups in the U.S. to hold the highest possible rating from three of the four leading independent insurance company rating agencies.*
What happens after I apply for coverage?
Once you apply, we'll contact you to schedule a health screening at a location of your choosing, and at no cost to you. After reviewing your situation, we will either issue your policy, ask for additional information, or decline the coverage - often within three to four weeks.
